Don’t Be Mislead by Advertisements and Repeated Name Placements
You're searching for an attorney and you keep seeing the same name pop up time and again. Why? How? Is that the true measure of success? Is this the go to guy in the area? Take a lesson and learn this simply truth.
Money & Subcontracting
First, placement is gained by one or two primary means. The first is throwing tons of money into advertisement. It keeps the name up front. That’s one way. Many of these attorneys will contract and advertise in multiple regions of the State. They will sub-contract or farm your case out to multiple attorneys that have some form of association with the firm.. You are not guaranteed that attorneys personal services. Multiple attorneys and large investments mean less time in your analysis and quick turnarounds. It converts that law firm into a large form of a public defenders office. The source you are most likely not looking for, thus be careful.
Sponsorship
A second means of placement is to pay for placement. Sponsorship does that. It's like buying a billboard or sign. It places your name near a top region. It does not mean the attorney is better, but instead, he is willing to sacrifice money for placement. He may be the most ill performing attorney, but he has invested in a billboard of sort. Search the performance, not the placement.
Reviews
This is a primary means for placement. The attorney will place a stated amount in a Google Account. Thereupon ask all his clients and friends to give him nice reviews and hi star ratings. They will most likely if they are happy. The more kind reviews the higher placement. But for what? Possibly the attorney “settled” a case. What was it? Was it a simple battery. Was it a noise complaint? Was it someone that threw a rock? Was it a misdemeanor trial? Was it a serious felony offense involving a life sentence or complicated felony.
It is noteworthy to look at the offense. Did the attorney secure a release via a trial. That’s the measure of your attorney together with the nature of the offense. It is possible that the attorney handles as I do largely if not exclusively a lower-case load and such case load is lower do to the handling of only serious felony offenses. Thus the placement is low, regardless of the success performance of the attorney. Thus, look at the load performance and the number with caution. Consider such factors as most important.
Word Search Advertisement
Another method of placement is the investment in a word search analysis. The more attorneys are willing to advertise on a word search basis and the more words they are willing to bid for, the more often you will see their names up front and more continual. It speaks nothing of the attorneys performance. Be ever so cautious.
A Proper Approach
A most appropriate approach I suggest. Look at my web site, Jeffrey Wiggs, Attorney. I advise you to consider the following:
a.) Fee is Too Reasonable: If the money requested is too low or you feel you got the better end of the deal, don’t hire the attorney. All attorneys need to be compensated a reasonable fee for their services.
b.) Lack of Experience: You want service and want good service? Of course; then look for those that had done the job for a significant time. They usually have been in business for years due to their success. Ask them about success and they should be able to show you. Was it trial or pleading? You want a plea peddler or performer in trials? Ask them how often do you go to trial and what was the most serious offense you successfully handled.
c.) Does the Attorney Have Easy Access to the Court: Be honest, are you going to take a case hundred or multiple miles away?
WHAT YOU SHOULD BE SUSPICIOUS ABOUT IN SEARCHING OUT ANY ATTORNEY
. . . LACK OF EXPERIENCE
. . . LACK OF EASY ACCESS TO THE COURT
. . . PRICES THAT ARE A LITTLE TOO REASONABLE
. . . UNDISCLOSED THEORIES OF YOUR DEFENSE
. . . UNSUPPORTED CLAIMS OF VICTORY
